Getting started with Bút Nghiên for students
In Bút Nghiên, students do four main things: join classes, take exams, submit assignments and check scores. This guide shows how to do each one, plus what to know so you don't lose your work during an exam.

Step 1. Create an account
- Open the Sign up page, fill in your full name and email, click “Send code”, then enter the 6-digit code sent to your email.
- When asked to choose a mode, choose Student and set a password of at least 8 characters.
- If your teacher already created an account for you, you'll get an activation email. Open it to set your password; there's no need to sign up again.
Step 2. Join a class with a code
- Choose “Classes” in the sidebar, then click “Enter class join code”. You can also scan the QR code or open the link your teacher sent.
- Enter the class code. Don't worry about capital letters or spaces; Bút Nghiên fixes them for you.
- Check the class name and teacher's name, then click “Confirm joining the class”.
Step 3. Take an exam
- Choose “Exams” and open an exam that's open. Check the time limit, number of questions and number of attempts allowed.
- Read the rules, tick the agreement box, then click “Start the exam now”.
- Choose an answer for each question. Flag any question you're unsure about so you can come back to it later.
- When you're done, submit your exam. Bút Nghiên reminds you if any questions are still unanswered.
- Your answer is saved every time you choose one. If you reload the page or lose your connection by accident, your work is still there and your answers are sent again when you're back online.
- The timer runs on the server, so reloading the page doesn't make you lose or gain time. When time runs out, your exam is submitted automatically.
- If your teacher turned on one-device mode, don't open the exam in another tab or on another device, or you'll lose your exam session.
Step 4. Check your scores and review mistakes
Go to “Results” to see the score for each exam. You see your score, the answers and explanations when your teacher allows it. If you can't see a score yet, your teacher may not have released it; your exam has still been submitted.
The “Mistakes notebook” collects the questions you got wrong so you can review and practice them again right away. Practicing again doesn't affect your scores.
Play live games
When your teacher shows a game PIN on the screen, choose “Live games” in the sidebar (or open the address ending in /play shown on the screen, or scan the QR code), enter the PIN, choose a nickname, then tap “Enter the game”. Tap an answer tile on your phone to answer; correct and fast answers earn more points.
Can I take an exam without an account?
Yes, if your teacher allows it. When your teacher sends a link or QR code for a public exam, open it, enter your full name (if the exam asks for it) and start right away without signing up.
